This Privacy Policy explains what information the StormStock mobile app ("StormStock", "we", "us") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using StormStock, you agree to this policy.
With your permission, we use your device's approximate and precise location to: find stores and hazards near you, determine your neighborhood for the community chat and help board, alert you when a hazard or storm is near, and target safety notifications. You can deny or revoke location access in your device settings; some features (finding nearby supplies, local alerts) will be limited without it.
Signing in is optional. It unlocks a verified name, a profile photo, family/friends features, and is required to post in the community chat and help board (browsing and reporting stock stay anonymous). If you sign in with Google or Apple, our authentication provider (Clerk) receives your name and email address to create your account. You can use the rest of the app without an account.
You can leave an optional one-time tip inside the app. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store โ we never receive your card details or your Apple ID. We only store, on your device, the total you have tipped, so the app can show your supporter badge. If you are signed in, that badge is also saved to your account so it follows you to another device.
If you enable push notifications, we store a push token for your device (so we can deliver safety alerts) along with your approximate location/neighborhood and a random app-generated ID. This random ID is not linked to your real identity unless you choose to sign in.
Information you submit โ stock reports, "open/closed" reports, price reports, hazard reports, chat messages, help posts, group messages, a display name you choose, and your safe/needs-help status โ is stored on our servers and, except for direct messages and groups, is visible to other users in your area. Stock and hazard reports are collected anonymously by design.
Photos you attach to a hazard or chat are uploaded to a third-party image host (imgbb) and are set to expire after 24 hours. A profile photo you set is uploaded the same way but kept until you replace it. All photos are screened by an automated AI moderation step before posting. Damage-documentation photos you take for insurance are stored only on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
When you use the in-app assistant, the messages you send are transmitted to our AI provider (Groq) to generate a response. When you tap "Translate" on a message, that message's text is sent to the same provider to translate it into your language. Don't share sensitive personal information with the assistant.
We use a small number of third-party services to run the app. We share only what each needs to do its job.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
StormStock is a community tool. Reports, chat messages, help posts, and any display name or status you share may be seen by other people in your region and can be quoted or screenshotted by them. Please don't post anything you wouldn't want your neighbors to see, and don't share exact home addresses or other sensitive details.
StormStock is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We use reasonable measures to protect information, including restricted database access and secure connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and significant changes may be highlighted in the app.
